“We, teachers, researchers and staff at the Faculty of Social Sciences, want to express our deep concerns regarding the ways the university has handled the Encampment in Palestinagård. This morning we witnessed violence against our students from the police with the implicit support of the university. We believe that there were several different ways to handle the situation without the need for police forces. To resort to violence against peaceful protestors is nothing that the university should support, especially in a democratic setting.”
“In light of this, we view the student’s encampment as an enactment of precisely such democratic values, through non-violent protests, everyday education and requests for dialogue with the university.”
“The way the situation was handled starkly contradicts the aims of the university, and deeply impacts the work and learning environment that are important goals for the university’s employees. The ways our students have been brutalized this morning will have a deep and lasting impact on students and employees alike, and we call on the faculty’s management to address our concerns.”
