We established this encampment on May 14th. Yesterday, on the one month anniversary, our encampment was dismantled by police and KTH.

This week we got a notice that KTH had applied for, and been given, a permit for the grounds we have been occupying, as they are holding a conference there on June 17th. Police informed us they would dismantle camp at 8.00 am.

Since the establishment of our encampment we have said that we wouldn’t leave until our demands were met, and we stood by that. Police dragged protesters away and KTH staff dismantled our encampment within an hour.

We thank those that came out to support us, and have been supporting us from the very beginning.

The fight continues.

ENCAMPMENT SU DAY 32: Marking the one month anniversary of our encampment – today was really a day to remember! Together with encampments coming to the capital from other parts of the country – we established Palestina-parlamentet aka the Palestine Parliament, just outside the Swedish Riksdag. While we were setting up, the encampment at KTH was being torn down and the students dragged away. However our comrades put up a good and righteous fight! And some of them came and joined the rest of us outside of Parliament. In yet another part of the city, we also had comrades making sure to give the visiting presidents of Chile and Colombia a personalised letter each, urging them to put diplomatic pressure on the Swedish government to do what is morally juste, and boycott Israeli institutions and companies complicit in the occupation, oppression, apartheid and genocide of the Palestinian people!

Although a bit tired from all of the action today – we are not downcast, to the contrary – we are even more sure and committed to the fight for a free Palestine!
In one measly month’s time – together, and with all the support from civil society, we have achieved a lot – and we are only getting started.

Gaza i våra hjärtan, alltid ♥️

Good evening Stockholm! Today, on the 1 month anniversary of protesting outside of our universities against their collaborations with the Zionist occupation of Palestine, we brought our protest encampments to the Swedish Parliament!

We came together from our encampments in Karlstad, Örebro, Lund, Stockholm, Linköping, Göteborg and Uppsala to protest against the Swedish government and the education minister Mats Persson.

Haven’t you heard? 😏
The students united will never be defeated 🍉✊🏽🇵🇸

Representatives for the student encampments ⛺️ also got to meet with the Chilean 🇨🇱 president Gabriel Boric, who also happened to be visiting Sweden (what are the odds?).

As president Boric also has proven to be sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, he too received a letter from us, imploring him to use the power he holds to pressure the Swedish government to stand on the right side of humanity and history in relation to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.

At a following meeting with the Swedish Committee on Foreign Affairs, Boric thanked for the letter, and he and three other Chilean parliamentarians (all from different political parties) discussed the topic of Palestine 🇵🇸. Apparently almost the entire meeting got to be about Palestine (as it should!), and about the hypocrisy and double standards accepting inhumane treatment of Palestinians, but not of… let’s say Ukrainians.

Today the visiting Colombian 🇨🇴 president, Gustavo Petro, who has shown support for the Palestinian 🇵🇸 cause, received a letter from the Swedish student encampments ⛺️, urging him to challenge Sweden’s 🇸🇪 diplomatic, academic and commercial relations with Israel, and the repression that pro Palestine activists face in this country.

The silence of Swedish universities cannot be defended on the grounds of neutrality or the pursuit of objectivity – on the contrary, it contradicts the common principles of knowledge production worldwide, namely critical thinking, research ethics and human rights. Condemning genocidal killing and ethnic cleansing should be a matter of course for an engaged and critical academy that defends human rights and fundamental democratic values.

As academics working in Swedish universities, we are concerned about the silence that paralyses our institutions and prevents them from standing up against genocide and ethnic cleansing. We note a widespread fear of reprisals among our colleagues. These are signs that an unfree and restricted research and education environment is taking shape in Sweden.

Swedish universities should take the lead in joining the academic boycott of Israeli universities and academic institutions, in accordance with the guidelines adopted by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and the guidelines for academic and cultural boycott adopted by the international Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign. The boycott excludes institutional collaborations, but does not prevent individual collegial exchanges with Israeli scholars without institutional ties, nor projects based on a clear recognition of Palestinian rights in accordance with the principles of international law.

We also look forward to Swedish universities developing resources to offer Palestinian academics opportunities to continue their research in peace and security at our universities around the country.
